What change in your life have you been considering, but haven’t taken action on yet? There’s always something – losing 10 pounds, organizing the garage, looking at your company books for where you can make improvements. Those things that are ‘important’, yet not at the top of your list…BUT if taken care of, could change your life. Know what I mean?
What’s stopping you from getting started and attacking those goals?
Often it’s one small change.
All The Excuses Not To
When we think down the road about our lives after the changes are made, often the reality is so drastically different that we have trouble mapping out how to get from point A to point B.
The problem is that you’re not breaking down the steps between those two points.
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying – ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’, along with a million others that ring true here. So, what do you do?
It’s simple, start with making a plan and gathering the bricks. Then, get to work!
After all, the excuses for why you shouldn’t are only doubts standing in the way of you achieving your goal.
You’re stopping yourself before you even get started, usually out of fear of the potential problems that might arise.
It’s time to stop getting in your own way. Here’s how.
Declare Your Goal
Across the globe, we’re navigating one of the most challenging years we’ve had in our lifetime. COVID has changed the game for a lot of people. Working from home, not working, illness, etc. There’s so much more going on this year than we ever could have dreamed of a year ago.
BUT…this is not the time to give up on your goals. This is the time to dig deeper.
We’re almost to the end of 2020. Most people are dreaming of holidays and winding down the year. It’s not time to relax yet though. Relaxing and letting up too much will not help you achieve your goals.
So, what do you want to achieve by December 31st this year? What goal will you commit to working on before you set that New Year’s Resolution?
Commit To Living Your Best Life, Today
I remember listening to a show with Dr. Oz one day where he said that if you chose to eat 150 calories less per day, that you’d eventually lose weight. It’s the same thing with weight lifting or exercising in any capacity.
Going to the gym once won’t change anything noticeable, but going for even a half hour every day will eventually add up to noticeable change.
What‘s Holding You Back
Have you ever thought about the fact that, for richer or poorer, we all have the same hours in a week to achieve our goals? If you break it down, you would see that there are 24 hours in a day. You should be sleeping for at least 6, and if you work 8 hours and do the rest of your duties in 6, that leaves us with 4 hours to do something extra for yourself.
When you put it that way, most people really do have time every day that they could be using to work on a goal. True or true?
So, what goal are you going to commit to working on today?
In order to be a whole-life millionaire, we have to feel whole. Whether it’s personal development, reading a half hour a day to learn a new skill or concept, taking care of your body, etc. It’s worth it to put in that time. We deserve to live our lives in a state of wholeness, where we’re successful not only in our careers but in our personal lives as well.
Break It Down
Start by taking the time to figure out what you really want this next year to look like. Ask yourself:
- What do you envision for yourself in 2021?
- How do you want to end 2020?
- What do you want to have achieved by this time next year?
Then break it down. Turn it into manageable steps for yourself and then plan out each week. Write down:
- What your goal is for the next week
- What the penalty will be for yourself if you fail to follow through
- What support you need to see that goal through to the end
- How you will celebrate once you achieve that micro-goal
If you broke your goal down into these smaller steps, would it be achievable? Yes or yes?
Be intentional about forming good habits by repeating these micro-actions on a consistent basis.
Small wins = BIG results when transformed into habits.
So take inventory of your year. Ask yourself what are you going to achieve by the end of this year, what big goal will set you up to rock the new decade, and GET STARTED NOW! Commit to making one small change that will take you further down your road to success.
Remember, motivation gets you started…but habits keep you going.
Now get going, and MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
